Obituary for Barbara Alene Himes

Barbara Alene Himes passed away peacefully after a long battle with Dementia, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 with family members at her side.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 5, at Lost Creek Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery on Redlands Road off S.H. 33 under direction of Strode Funeral Home. The Rev. Max Rudd will officiate.
Barbara was born on May 18, 1942 in Battiest, Oklahoma to Clarence W. Hatter and Juanita Fern (Matheson) Hatter. The family moved to a farm near Coyle in 1956. She was educated at Broken Bow, Perkins, Progress, and Coyle.
She developed an interest in oil painting at an early age. She was taught by a professional artist in Frederick, and through a correspondence art school.
As an artist, Barbara painted a 9-foot-by-13foot mural of Noah's Ark in the nursery of First Christian Church of Guthrie and murals of animals in other rooms of the children's department. She also painted a mural on a living room wall in the family house in Guthrie.
She enjoyed growing flowers and gardening, and loving her grandchildren.
She and Oliver Dale Himes were united in marriage on June 21, 1959 in the Coyle-area home of her parents before the Rev. Faye Wheeler of Friends Chapel.
She worked as an Avon salesperson, and as a salesclerk at two boutique stores in
the Victor Building in Guthrie. She is retired from the News Press, where she was the librarian. She is survived by her husband Dale; son Richard Gregory Himes (Jan Bayless); daughter
Debra Lorene Hall (Bryan Thomason); Jeff Hall, ex-son-in-law, all of Stillwater; brothers
Ronnie Hatter (Linda) of Coyle and Sam Hatter (Debra) of Agra.
She is survived by four grandsons, JT Himes (Emily) of Kyle, Texas, Brandon Himes (Tyler) of Edmond, Kristopher Himes of Oklahoma City; Joshua Allen of Tulsa (and Andrew Johnson); granddaughters, Julianne J' Lee Hall (Ty Reese) of Stillwater; Catherine (Cat) Thomason of Tulsa, and Hayli Himes of Edmond; great-grandson, Sawyer Lee Himes-Hall of Stillwater; great-granddaughters, Cora and Riley Himes of Kyle, Texas, and Reese K' Lee
Dewberry of Stillwater, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Juanita Hatter; sister, Judy Rasmussen, and brother-in-law Darrell Rasmussen of Yukon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimer/ Dementia research, and Judith Karman Hospice.
