Obituary for Curtis Weldon Richardson

Curtis W. Richardson, 92, of Stillwater, died peacefully at home on November 9, 2022. A visitation with the family will be Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater. A graveside service and interment will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2022, in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater. A celebration of his life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater.

Born on the family farm on March 26, 1930, to B.F. and Ethel Richardson in Stephens County, Oklahoma, Curtis graduated with an Associate degree in agriculture from Cameron Junior College in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1950 and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Oklahoma A&M College in 1952. He received a master’s degree in Dairy Science from Oklahoma A&M College in 1953. After teaching agriculture at Eastern A&M College in Oklahoma and East Texas State University, he earned a PhD in Dairy Science from the University of Missouri in 1960.

He enjoyed a distinguished career as a State Extension Dairy Specialist in the Animal Science Department at Oklahoma State University from 1962 until he retired in 1992. He loved working with the farm families and the 4-H and FFA youth of Oklahoma. After retirement he served as Chapter President and service officer of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), was an officer of Golden Kiwanis, and delivered Mobile Meals for many years. He was an avid OSU sports fan and enjoyed gardening and telling stories and spending time with his family. Curtis never met a stranger and loved making people laugh.

In 1952, Curtis married Ila Mae Roton with whom he had three daughters, Christia Suzanne, Sharon Kay, and Shelley Ann. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1970. Curtis married Billie Millard Foster in 1973 and was a wonderful stepfather to her three children.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two grandchildren.

He is survived by wife Billie, his daughters Susy Flaming and husband Richard of Tulsa, Sharon Robinson of Stillwater, and Shelley Lombardo and husband Mark of Tulsa, stepchildren Charley Foster and wife Kim of Kauai, Hawaii, Beth McLean and husband Bill of Stillwater, and Stephenie Foster and husband Marty Matlock of Fayetteville, Arkansas, 14 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
