Obituary for David Richard Brechwald

David Richard Brechwald passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, March 1, 2024 at his home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. A celebration of his life will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the First Christian Church in Stillwater.

Born on March 3, 1943 to Donald and Rosemary Brechwald, David lived his early years in Washington, Iowa, and South Dakota. During his high school years, David moved to Wisconsin and graduated from Onalaska High School. It was there he met the love of his life and wife of nearly 60 years, Bettie Pennel. David and Bettie married in 1964.

David graduated with an accounting degree from the University of Wisconsin, followed by passing the CPA exam. After spending time as an accountant for two different companies, David left the private sector to use his skills as an F.B.I. Special Agent and firearms instructor. During his 25 year career with the F.B.I., David lived in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Oklahoma. After retiring, he worked part-time conducting back ground checks for various agencies.

In his free time, David enjoyed traveling the United States with his wife Bettie in their RV. David enjoyed fishing, walking, riding his bicycle, and spending time with his family. He also attended weekly "coffees" with his friends and other law enforcement retirees.

David is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Thomas, and granddaughter, Lauren.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Brechwald; his four children, Marie Miller (Jeff), Barbara Williamson (Terry), Rebecca Oney (Jay), Daniel Brechwald (Sarah); and his grandchildren Jillian, Donnie, Zipporah, Lincoln, Grant, Sherman, Jessica, Amelia, and Michael.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family asks that you consider a donation to Judith Karman Hospice, the Stillwater Cancer Center, or to the First Christian Church in recognition of the love and support they showed David and his family during his battle with cancer.
