Obituary for Wayne Scott Jr.

Douglas Wayne Scott Jr., 61, passed away on June 5th, 2023, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loved ones.

A celebration of Wayne's life will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023 at the Elks Lodge, 202 E. McElroy, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74075. A meal will follow at 1:00 p.m. A traditional Indian burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Foraker Cemetery in Foraker, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

He was born on February 25th, 1962, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to his parents, Douglas Wayne Scott Sr. and Sondra Sue Scott. Wayne was a loving husband, son, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.


Wayne grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Ponca City High School in 1980. He then attended Oklahoma State University, where he met the love of his life Jennifer Sweitzer. They married on August 8, 1992, in Albertville, Alabama. Wayne was very proud to be the Inventory Control Manager for B & L Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. He worked for the company for almost 20 years and retired in January 2023 due to severe health illness.


Wayne loved all things outdoors, including hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, smoking, and grilling meats. He was a big animal lover and is survived by his beloved rescue dog, Petey. Wayne was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Stillwater, OK for 24 years, where he served in various officer positions and committee chairs over the years at the local, state, and national levels.


Wayne attended many places of worship following his father, Rev. Douglas Wayne Scott Sr. He thoroughly enjoyed attending The First Christian Church in Shidler, Oklahoma, with his family. However, no further details about his religious beliefs were provided.


Wayne is survived by his wife Jennifer Scott, his father Douglas Wayne Scott Sr., his brothers Jeffrey Scott and Joe Degenhardt and Timothy Scott, his niece and nephew Mackenzie Scott and Foster Scott, and his mother-in-law Anne Sweitzer and brother-in-law Jim Sweitzer. He was preceded in death by his mother Sondra Scott, his paternal grandparents Jesse and May Scott, his maternal grandparents Homer and Margret Chappell, and his father-in-law John Sweitzer.


Those wishing to honor Douglas's memory the family is asking for donations towards funeral and expenses.
