Obituary for Eugene Thomas Brennan

Eugene (Gene) Thomas Brennan, age 93, of Stillwater, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery in Stillwater. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.

Gene was born in O'Neill, Nebraska December 2, 1929 to Thomas and Agnes Brennan.

He lived in O'Neill until 1942 and then later moved to Lincoln, Nebraska with his family. Gene graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947 and entered the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He was a student until January 1951 at which time he joined the Air Force and served 4 years earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Gene was given an Honorable Discharge and returned to the University of Nebraska to complete his studies receiving a Degree in Business.

While at the University of Nebraska he was a member of the Phi Delta Gamma fraternity and worked various odd jobs.

After graduation, Gene worked several Jobs in various cities until he arrived in Tulsa where he met Theresa Farrell and was married on September 17,1960 enjoying 61 years of marriage. During his time In Tulsa, he worked in the Sales and Marketing Division of Oklahoma Natural Gas until 1970 at which time he was promoted to City Manager of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma for ONG.

While in Broken Arrow, Gene became Chamber of Commerce President, was in the Rotary Club and was awarded Man and Boy of the Year for the Salvation Army.

In 1976 Gene was promoted to Area Manager for ONG at Stillwater, Oklahoma. Theresa and Gene enjoyed the next 47 years in this college town. Gene retired in the mid-80's and found a new job in real estate appraisal and traveling with Theresa to see the country.

While living in Stillwater he was again involved with the Rotary Club, Stillwater Medical Foundation, where he served as President from 1985 - 1986, and a member of the Stillwater Country Club as well as many other groups in Stillwater. Gene was a member of St Francis Catholic Church community where he enjoyed his faith. Gene enjoyed all sports associated with the university. He and Theresa had season tickets for football, basketball, baseball, and soccer. They enjoyed the OSU Marching Band and for years was the announcer for the band at home games. Gene enjoyed the activities that the University provided and was a big supporter of the city and university for years. He enjoyed the college town atmosphere.

Preceding him in death is his Father and Mother, Thomas J. and Agnes Brennan and his wife, Theresa Brennan.

Gene is survived by his brother William T. Brennan and his wife Gail. His step-son William P. Farrell and his wife Renee. He has two grandchildren: Kyle Farrell and his wife Carly, and Alison Farrell. Also surviving are his three great grandchildren: Paris, Brooklyn and Addison.
