Obituary for Jeffrey Scott Miller

Jeffrey Scott Miller, Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma Buffalo Clan member, Che-Doh-Ha / Standing Buffalo, passed away on December 13, 2022 in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 55. His funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Iowa Tribe Bak-Kho-Je Chena Bldg. in Perkins, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at the Kent Family Cemetery in Perkins, Oklahoma. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of arrangements.


Scott was born on July 28, 1967 to Joyce and Randolph Miller, Sr. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In his younger years he was known for his athletic abilities in varsity sports. He attended Langston University and supported his family working in carpentry, maintenance and landscaping. Scott was most known for his handy work and helping everyone without asking. He was with his partner and children’s mother, Tammy Palmer for a number of years. Later he married Gloria Ellis.


Scotty entered the powwow dance arena at a young age as a straight dancer and continued to love dancing while serving in many honored capacities such as head gourd dancer and an arena director throughout his communities. He enjoyed singing gourd dance or 49 songs. Scotty was most known for his kindness and generosity to everyone he came in contact with.

Grandparents Jacob and Rachel Kent-Big Soldier preceded him in death.


He is survived by his mother, Joyce Miller, daughter, Shayla Scott Miller Big Soldier and son, Joshua Palmer. Brothers, Randy Miller, Jr. and Gregory Hoagie Miller, and a sister, Robyne Miller.


Pallbearers will be Randy Miller, Hoagie Miller, Jeff Grass, Zethan Binford and Perri Ahhaitty.
