Obituary for Joan Phelps McGinty

On January 12, 2023, Joan Phelps McGinty, 88, passed away at Southern Oaks Care Center in Pawnee, Oklahoma. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17 at the First Baptist Church in Glencoe, Oklahoma. Pastor Irvin Haken presiding. Burial will take place at the Glencoe South Cemetery on Yost Lake Rd. Service arrangements are under the direction of Strode Funeral Home and Cremation in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Joan was born on March 16, 1934 in Pernell, Oklahoma to Calvin Lee and Grace Evelyn (Wilson) Phelps. She attended OSU and earned a degree in business. On December 12, 1953, Joan married Billy Jay McGinty in Tucumcari, New Mexico. She worked with her husband & family in the Glencoe State Bank for many years. The First Baptist Church of Glencoe holds her membership. Joan loved animals of all kinds. She loved singing, shopping and getting dressed up, and she never met a stranger. She loved telling stories about adventures with her sisters when they were young and she was always there to listen when you were in need of a friend.

Parents Calvin Lee and Grace Evelyn Phelps preceded her in death as did her sister, Joyce Lee Olinghouse.

Survivors are her husband, Billy Jay; daughter Rhonda Hodges and husband Keith, son Criss McGinty and wife Beverly; four grandchildren, Brandi Hodges, Keith Hodges, Jr., Bart Hodges and Ty McGinty; great-grandchildren, Brittany Jenkins, Savannah Jenkins and husband Gabe Coleman, Chandler Jenkins, Parker Hodges and Addison Hodges; great-great-grandchildren, Haydenne Jenkins, Jude Coleman, LInkin Coleman and Braylen Miller; and one sister Billie Pat Bass of San Antonio, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Keith Hodges, Sr., Keith Hodges, Jr., Bart Hodges, Chris McGinty, Ty McGinty and Chandler Jenkins.
