Obituary for Judith Elise Dobson

Dr. Judith Elise Dobson passed away peacefully on December 8, 2022. A celebration of her life will be held next summer in Red River, NM.

Judy was born Sept. 27, 1934 in Fort Dodge Iowa to Walter and Doris Weiss. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Elementary Education. As a single mom of two children, she received a MS from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a PhD from the University of Wyoming, both in school counseling and began a career in 1971 as a Professor of Applied Behavioral Studies at Oklahoma State University. At Oklahoma State she met and married the love of her life, Russell Dobson. Judy was a well- respected and popular professor and students flocked to her classes. In her later years, Judy loved going to their second home in Red River, NM where she could hike, fish and enjoy the outdoors.

Judy was predeceased by her parents, sister Janet Moran and brother Walter Frederick Weiss.
She is survived by her husband Russell of the home, daughter Susan and John Peters of Plano, TX, son Steven Shelton of Huber Heights, OH, granddaughter Kathryn Peters of Nashville, TN, grandson Joshua Peters of Plano, TX and a bonus family of Mike and Susan Dobson, Tyler, TX, Mark and Kathy Dobson, Wolfe City, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dr. Judith E. Dobson Endowed Fellowship in School Counseling. Checks should be made payable to the OSU Foundation and mailed to PO Box 1749, Stillwater, OK 74076-1749.
