Louise Shau Yang Martin, 80, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed on June 15, 2023 with her husband and daughter by her side. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Strode Funeral Home Chapel. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born to parents Young Chang-Lin and Young Hsu Su-Fang, on April 9, 1943 in Chengdu, China.
As a young child, her family relocated to Taiwan. Part of a big family, Louise was a devoted daughter, sister, and mother. She was especially proud of the years she worked at Ching Chuan Kang (CCK) Air Base in Taichung, Taiwan. She moved to the United States in 1977 where she met her future husband in Berkeley, California.
Louise was married to Bjorn Martin in 1980. They lived in California, Illinois, and Utah before moving to Stillwater in 1990. Many will recognize her as a regular presence at local Chinese restaurants. Louise was an amazing chef and loved to host friends for dinner parties. A true social butterfly, Louise never went anywhere in town where she didn't run into someone she knew. She was an active member of Total Health Fitness and Stillwater Chinese Baptist Church. She was a substitute mother and grandmother to many international students during their time at Oklahoma State University.
Incredibly generous and thoughtful, she loved nothing more than to give gifts to people. If she knew you liked pandas, the next time she saw you she'd have some sort of panda-themed gift. She enjoyed shopping at garage sales, thrift stores, and antique shops to find unique treasures. She constantly took pictures and was never without her camera - capturing treasured memories of social gatherings, friends, and family. Even as her energy declined, she always perked up when her grandchildren came to visit, or she viewed videos or photos of them.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her late husband Tsui Lai-Ping; her young son; and her brother.
She is survived by her loving husband; two daughters; her son; five grandchildren; her great-granddaughter; three sisters; two brothers; and their families.
