Obituary for Martha Ann Lyon
Martha Ann Lyon, 82, of Perkins, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 18, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Martha was a Christmas Eve baby, born in Stillwater, Oklahoma on December 24, 1940, to Lillie Lee Hert and Robert Lamar Hert Sr. Martha, a former Homecoming Queen of Stillwater High School graduated in 1959. She went on to study Elementary Education at Oklahoma State University and joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority's PC class of 1959.
Martha met the love of her life at Oklahoma State University, Don Alan Lyon, with whom she celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2022. After graduating she began her life as a military spouse and teacher. She traveled the world for 29 years in the Air Force as Don's "wingman", before settling back in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1994. In 2006, they relocated to the family farm in Perkins, Oklahoma that was established by her late Uncle and Aunt, Dale & Florence Holbrook.
Martha taught school on three continents during her military travels. She will be fondly remembered by those close to her as having been a beautiful, fun, loving, caring, Christian lady, wife, mother, and Grammie who could make any house a home, no matter where she lived. She was and will forever be "loyal and true" to her Oklahoma State University roots and was always the best dressed cowgirl fan in the stands! May she rest in peace.
Martha was predeceased by her brother, Robert "Bob" Hert Jr. She is survived by her husband, Don; son, Donnie, his wife Jennifer and their children, Meagan and Drew; sister, Mary Lee Hert-Draper; sister-in-law, Joan Hert; and beloved dog, Lucky.
Viewing and visitation with the family present will be held at Strode Funeral Home in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Friday, March 24th from 10am to 12pm, with a graveside service immediately to follow at 1pm at the Perkins Cemetery in Perkins, Oklahoma. Please wear your favorite Oklahoma State attire to these events to honor Martha and her undying love and loyalty to her OSU Cowboys!
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, an organization that has supported the Lyon family throughout Martha's journey.
