Obituary for Rebekah Minerva Shaieb

Rebekah Minerva Shaieb, 73, of Frisco Texas, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2023, with her children and youngest sister by her side. She entered this world on January 11, 1950, in Duluth, Minnesota, the second of five children born to Lloyd and Louise Helms Peterson. Her kindness and warmth will be remembered by everyone whose life she touched. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always ready to play a role in her loved ones' lives with encouragement and faith.

After graduating from Hickman High School in Columbia, MO, Rebekah earned a bachelor's degree from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, MO, and later a Master's in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. She worked her way through school as a secretary and later establishing a career in accounting, but her amazing sewing skill was her passion. She later started her own seamstress business called "Becky's Sewing Creations." She made Miss Oklahoma's evening gown in 1998, and throughout her life won multiple festival awards for her exceptional quilting and embroidery work.

On August 22, 1970, Rebekah married Dr. Zuhair Al-Shaieb, who would be her loving husband for more than 33 years, until he was reposed to heaven on April 4, 2004. She relished being a university faculty wife in Stillwater, where Zuhair was a professor of geology at Oklahoma State University, and where they delighted in raising their children, Johnny and Nicole.

Rebekah was predeceased by her husband Dr. Zuhair Al-Shaieb, her brother Samuel Peterson, her parents Lloyd and Louise Helms Peterson, her grandparents Arthur Clarence and Grace Helms, her brother-in-law Nicola Tannous, and her niece Leila Tannous.

She is survived by son Johnny Shaieb and his wife Salwa Bishara Shaieb of Houston, TX; daughter Dr. Nicole Shaieb Jackson and husband Peter Jackson of Frisco, TX; grandchildren Zoey Shaieb, Zachary Shaieb, Otto Jackson, and Nellie Jackson; sisters Jane Peterson Tannous of Houston, TX, and Debby Peterson of Salado, TX; brother Dr. Jeff Peterson and wife April Patton Peterson and their children Samuel, Michael and David of Dripping Springs, TX; sister-in-law Brenda Bisch Peterson and children Kyle, Alex, and Isabelle of Columbia, MO; brother-in-law Dr. Issam Al-Shayeb and his wife Perla Kara Al-Shayeb of Falls Church, VA; niece Dr. Jeanet Tannous Roche and her husband Dr. Warren Roche, Jr. and children WP, Shane, Renee and Zane; nephew Nick Tannous and wife Mikie Tannous; and many other uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and long-time friends.

There will be a celebration of Rebekah's life at University Heights Baptist Church, Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 11 AM CT in Stillwater Oklahoma.
