Obituary for Shirley Temple Chace

Shirley Temple Chace, known to all who loved her as Nana, 88 of Stillwater, OK died on July 31, 2023 at her home with family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Strode Funeral Home Chapel in Stillwater with burial following at the Morrison Cemetery, Morrison, Oklahoma.
Shirley was born on July 20, 1935 in Cuzick, Kentucky to Benjamin Franklin and Valeria Jones. She was one of seven siblings, having five sisters and one brother. After living in Kentucky for a few years, the family relocated to Oklahoma, where her father served numerous United Methodist Churches.
Shirley graduated from Laverne High School and then attended Panhandle State University. It was here that she met her future husband, William "Billy Bob" Chace. Shirley said she would never marry a preacher, having been a preacher's kid all her life. And she didn't marry a preacher, however five some years into the marriage Bill was laid off at his job working for the public works department in Ponca City. They went to visit Shirley's parents one evening and after that visit Bill announced that he was entering the ministry and together they shared in forty-six years of ministry.
Not only did they share in ministry together, they also raised six children together. There were five boys, and one girl. There was always a full breakfast ready for the family every morning, consisting of biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon and oatmeal. Her house was always well kept and picked up. As the children married their spouses and began creating their own families, this is when Shirley became known as Nana. This was her favorite name, her identity and her love. She loved being Nana. Nana was short in stature, but she was always given the utmost respect by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nana loved to spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nana was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and one brother,
She is survived by her six children, Jeff (Regina) Chace of Oklahoma City, Roxanna (Steve) Conner of Perkins, OK, Robert (JoAnn) Chace of Newkirk, OK, Mike (Shannon) Chace of Stillwater, OK, Tom (Lisa) Chace of Cherokee, OK, and Craig (Lisa) Chace of Hopedale, IL.
Besides her thirty-one grandchildren and forty-five great grandchildren she is also survived by her sister Nancy Groseclos of Oklahoma City and numerous other relatives and friends.
Nana's family would like to thank Traditions Hospice for the love and care they provided to her during this short period of time. The love and support of this wonderful staff means so much to the Chace family.
