Obituary for Steven Pierson Mornhinweg

Steven Pierson Mornhinweg, 73, of Stillwater, OK, passed away on July 14, 2023, in Oklahoma City after a short illness. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 20 at Strode Funeral Home, 610 S. Duncan, Stillwater, OK. The family will be present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Please join us for services Friday morning, July 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Ceres Christian Church, 13 miles north of Perry, OK on US Hwy 77. Burial will follow in the Ceres Cemetery

He was born in the home in Red Rock, OK on November 22, 1949, to O.V. and Willene Mornhinweg.

Steve grew up on the farm west of Red Rock, OK, where he attended Red Rock Schools, graduating in 1968. He furthered his education at Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma State University, graduating with a Wildlife Management degree in 1972. He began his career with USDA as a Soil Conservationist in 1973. His career spanned 30+ years, serving in Kingfisher, Antlers, Talihina and Ada, OK, where he was beloved by many coworkers.

He was a lifelong member of Ceres Christian Church, Ceres, OK, and an honorary member of the First United Methodist Church, Ada, OK, and Highland Park UMC, Stillwater, OK. Steve was a devout Christian who loved spending time on his childhood farm, hunting, fishing and helping with wheat harvest. He loved reading, music, OSU sports and traveling, having traveled to all 50 states and all 77 OK counties.

In 1975 he married the love of his life, Claudia Beth Jones from Jones, OK. They were married for 48 years, and were blessed with three wonderful sons who in turn blessed them with three amazing daughters-in-law and nine grandchildren. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who treasured time spent with family. He and Claudia often traveled to see their grandkids, and he was an active supporter of everything they did.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents O.V. and Willene Mornhinweg, brother, Rick Mornhinweg and sister-in-law, Carole Beth Barnett.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia of the home, sons Jeff (Rebecca) of Stillwater, OK, Paul (Kendall) of Edmond, OK, and Gary (Jennifer) of Ada, OK. Nine grandchildren, Cora, Sylvie, Cecily and Margo Mornhinweg, Hailey Cantrell and Maddie May, Brayden, Bailey and Brooklyn Mornhinweg, brother, Dale Barnett, Stillwater, OK, sister, Melanie (Dennis) Williams, Red Rock, OK, sister-in-law, Dolores Mornhinweg, Stillwater, OK, brother-in-law, David (Glenda) Jones, Aurora, CO, aunt, Carolyn Dyson, Mt. Vernon, MO, uncle, John (Ruth Ann) Osborne, San Antonio, TX, nieces, Valary Williams, Janelda Lane, Mindy Kiser, Megan Ripley, Kiley Jones, and nephews, Martin Williams, Anton Mornhinweg, Arland Mornhinweg and Tyler Jones. He also had numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of St. Anthony's Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK, and family and friends for their loving support.
