Obituary for Twyla Dorene Winterhalter
Twyla D. Winterhalter, age 87, of Stillwater, Oklahoma passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 surrounded by family. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 in the Strode Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
She was born on November 19th, 1935 in Tryon, Oklahoma to Lawrence and Alice (Culie) Smith. She was the third of four children.
Twyla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Dwight; her older sister Leora Chilton; her older brother Frank Smith; her nephew Lewis Keith Chilton; and her daughter, Gayla Sue Winterhalter.
She is survived by her brother Marvin Smith of Paris, Texas; her grandson J.D. Winterhalter and wife Kendra of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and six great-grandchildren: Dylan, Ryan, Aydan, BlaykeLeigh, Greyson, and Sawyer; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Twyla enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She enjoyed family get-togethers where her ability to efficiently stack a plate of food was always a sight to behold. She loved traveling, and particularly enjoyed cruises of which she took several throughout the years. She was a prolific reader and lover of books. She also liked working on jigsaw puzzles and doing word searches. She fiercely loved her family, was quick witted and loved to laugh. Affectionately known as Auntie, Grandma, and Nana, she will be sorely missed but fondly remembered.
Although flowers are appreciated, the family encourages those wishing to honor Twyla's memory do so by contributing to the Humane Society of Stillwater, 1710 S. Main St., Stillwater, OK 74074.
