Obituary for Venisa Maria McLaughlin

Venisa Maria McLaughlin passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2023 in Granbury, Texas. The Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023 also at St. Francis. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Stillwater, Oklahoma under the direction of Strode Funeral Home and Cremation.

Venisa was born on April 12, 1964 to Anne Taylor and John Rolls in Tulsa, OK. She was adopted and raised by Rebecca and Erving (Abe) Nasalroad in Stillwater, OK. After graduating from Stillwater High School in 1981, she went on to study business at Oklahoma State University. In 1991 she graduated with a degree in Business Administration/Management with a minor in Marketing. From there she went on to attend Texas A&M University of Law and accomplished her dream when she graduated with her Juris Doctor in 2003.

In 1993, on October 2nd, she married Jeffrey McLaughlin in Hot Springs Arkansas. Venisa and Jeff went on to have two children, Cecily and Tabitha.

Venisa had so many hobbies and interests, truly too many to note here. She was skilled at playing the piano, violin, and cello. She was also raised to be an impressive equestrian. In her free time, she loved playing golf, water skiing, and reading. She was also very involved in her community. She was elected as a Director for the PPOA Board of Directors and participated in many clubs like the Republican Women’s Club, Rotary Club, and the Pecan Women’s Club. She found great joy in helping people, and a lot of her time was spent trying to serve those in her community. With any problem she could concoct a solution, and one of her many joys was seeing the relief in others faces. Her altruism made her brilliant, but it was her ability to befriend anyone that really made her shine. When she wasn’t busy, she spent time with her family, usually out on the lake or watching movies. Likewise, she always had an entourage of at least one dachshund.

She took this drive and passion into her professional life. Besides operating her own law practice for many years, she also worked as Assistant Hood County Attorney. While there she defended those who sought protective orders, dealt with environmental cases, mental commitments, and the justice of the peace courts, among many other duties. She believed in justice and truth, which was reflected in her work.

Venisa was predeceased by her parents Rebecca and Erving, her sister Theresa Nasalroad, and her brother Gary Nasalroad. She is survived by her daughters Cecily and Tabitha McLaughlin, her parents Anne Taylor and John Rolls, her sisters Lynn Devereaux and Betty Rolls, and her brothers Darrell (Tommy) Nasalroad, John Taylor, Joe Taylor, and John Rolls. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dog Bambam.
