Obituary for Dale Sloan

Warren "Dale" Sloan, age 84, Morrison, Oklahoma finished his journey of life with family by his side on April 3, 2023 in Stillwater. Friends may visit with the family from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, Strode Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023 at the Morrison Event Center, Morrison, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in Pleasant Valley/Sumner Cemetery. Strode Funeral Home and Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.


Dale was born on November 22, 1938, in Vernon, Texas to RL and Ethel Sloan. He grew up in Burneyville, Oklahoma learning a strong work ethic and to hunt/fish for food. From a young age, Dale helped raise hogs, picked cotton, and hauled hay to bring financial stability to their large household. He was the oldest of five siblings and helped raise them to have a strong work ethic like himself. He was the last graduating class from Burneyville High School.


After High School, he headed to Stillwater, Oklahoma to attend Oklahoma State University. He met his wife, Beverly Sloan, while at Oklahoma State University. While in college, Dale joined the United States Army. After serving his time in the Army, he completed his Bachelor of Science at Oklahoma State University and built a beautiful life and legacy in Morrison, Oklahoma.


Dale worked at Wyatt's Cafeteria, Oklahoma State University, and Morrison Public Schools.
He married Beverly Sloan in 1961and together had two beautiful children. Dale enjoyed his time outdoors, at any Morrison sporting event, or playing cards or dominos with family. In 2003, Dale was honored into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his commitment to the wrestling program. He coached wrestling for 50+ years.


He is preceded in death by his mother and father, RL and Ethel Sloan and his two brothers, Don and Dennis Sloan.


He is survived by wife, Beverly Sloan, sisters Delpha Ward and Linda Kerley, children Debrah Higbee and Dale Wayne Sloan, grandchildren, Bradley and Kaylee Higbee, Dustin Sloan, Clinton and Randee Sloan and many great-grandchildren.
