Obituary for Winona Ellen Wilhm

Nona Wilhm, 87, died January 3, 2023 in Stillwater, OK. Per her request, there will be no service and she is in the care of Strode Funeral Home and Cremation.

Mrs. Wilhm was born In Honolulu, HI, in 1935 and moved to Oregon in 1940. When her father was sent to Europe during World War II, he moved the family to Peabody, KS, where she graduated from high school in 1953. After high school she attended Emporia State University in Kansas. She married Jerry Wilhm in 1955 and they moved to Overland Park, KS.

Dr. and Mrs. Wilhm moved to Stillwater in 1962. After their children entered school, she worked as the insurance secretary and later as the administrative associate at the Student Health Clinic at Oklahoma State University for 25 years until her retirement in 1994. She and her husband established two endowments at OSU to support students in the Department of Zoology and they were instrumental in establishing a third.

After retirement she traveled extensively; enjoyed reading, music, crafts, and theater; and took an active interest in the activities of her grandchildren. She bowled in several Stillwater leagues and participated in adult programs at Total Health. She was a member of the Payne County Audubon Society and enjoyed watching birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, her son Dr. Jerry Wilhm III and his wife Cathy of Grand Ledge, MI; her daughter Jackie German and her husband Maurice of Stillwater, OK; four granddaughters Carrie German Love, Cristie Leach, Elyse Moore, and Dana Wilhm; as well as four great grandchildren.
